Starting July 8, what could be the most popular football camp for youngsters in the Clear Lake area enters its third year at Clear Lake Christian School.
This All Pro Football Camp will be a 3-day affair lasting until July 10.
All phases of football will be taught to the campers. They will throw, catch, run and tackle and will be timed through several courses.
It’s for ages 7-18 and will feature current and former NFL pros helping former Dallas Cowboys player Robert Smith, who is also the Eagles football coach.
Smith has brought another great lineup of players from the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears ready to lend their expertise for the three days. Smith has also asked the Houston Texans to provide a player to help with the camp.
“We’ve also invited players from the Houston area who are currently in the NFL,” Smith said. “But we can’t announce their names until they make a commitment.”
Smith managed to snare a plum when top NFL player Tampa Bay Bucs wide receiver Michael Clayton committed this week.
Plus there is good news about the field. In the beginning it wasn’t in the best of shape. In spots it was a couple of feet lower than the middle of the field.“We were able to get 100% of the field donated,” Smith said. “The sod had been put down and the grass is catching roots. We should be good to go when the camp starts.”
“We’re really excited about this year’s camp,” Smith added. “I think we will reach our goal of 200 kids.” Last year the camp drew 170 young players, not only from the Clear Lake, League City, Friendswood and Pearland areas, but from all over Houston. They all wanted to work with the real pros.
Registration is $125. The camp will run for those three days from 8:30 a.m. until noon with workouts under the watchful eyes of the NFL pros and Smith.
NFL players committed include Ronald Fields of the Broncos, Herman Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals, Kendrick Allen of the Vikings, Sean Smith of the Chicago Bears, Albert Lewis of the Oakland Raiders and Neil Smith of the Denver Broncos.
Also helping at the camp will be Dallas Cowboys scout Wil McClay and Atlanta Falcons pro scout Bruce Plummer.
