Right now you should be preparing for college. There was an informative article that appeared in The Houston Chronicle over the weekend regarding how the preparation for college begins in your junior year; now is the time to be "setting up your game."
You should have taken the PSAT, purchased an SAT prep book (which I have recommended be purchased at Barnes & Noble or Borders), begin college searches, scholarship searches and visit various campuses of colleges you may be interested in. You will be taking the SAT in the Spring so make sure you register at www.collegeboard.com and plug in to the plethora of information they have made available to you, free. If you need more information, come see me.
Seniors-
At this time, you should have already taken your first SAT or ACT and are preparing to take your second exam; SAT on Nov. 7, and again on Dec. 5 or you have recently taken the ACT on Oct. 24 or are preparing to take the next scheduled on Dec. 12. I have made this known each morning during announcements.
You must apply by Thanksgiving to meet the deadline imposed on most scholarships and financial aid at most public universities and colleges. Remember, there are scholarship resource books available for purchase at Barnes & Noble and other bookstores reminding you of the vast amount of money available. Financial aid and scholarships are need, merit, and athletic based. Check with each individual school you are interested in to see what they offer. FAFSA opens on Jan.1 for financial aid in Spring/Summer/Fall 2010.
If you need more info., please come see me, but remember, Thanksgiving has been the traditional period in which one applys to universities and colleges across the country. The motto to remember: NO PUMPKIN PIE UNTIL YOU APPLY!!
